Introduction to Indian Cuisine

India is a land of the rich heritage with immense cultural diversity. It follows the principle of Unity in diversity. Divided by 29 states and 7 union territories, our Nation has an immense history of flavour and spices being used in our food.

A rich cultural diversity also brings a diverse taste in food, but the bread of the Country form the sole base of Indian food. Consequently, bread such as Naan, Roti, Paratha forms the base of the cuisine of the nation.

For a modern household where the majority of the members are working, it can become very cumbersome to make traditional dishes such as tandoori food. However, with the advancement of technology, this problem can be effectively solved.

What is An Electric Tandoor

Electric Tandoors are modern-day tandoors that run on electricity. They fill the void of restaurant-like food at home and can be used to make a variety of food efficiently and in a hassle-free manner.

The dishes that are prepared range extensively from Indian food such as paneer tikka, tandoori naan, tandoori roti to Italian cuisines such as pizza and barbeques.

How to Make A Roti Using an Electric Tandoor

  1. Mix flour, yoghurt and seeds together.
  2. Make a soft dough and it has to be soft enough to roll out, not too firm to make it difficult to roll. Remember that soft dough makes for softer rotis.
  3. Keep aside for 10-15 minutes. Then give it a quick knead, to make it smooth.
  4. Heat the oven to the maximum. Leave the oven tray in the centre of the oven to get it warmed up. It needs to be really hot to be able to cook both the sides of the rotis well.
  5. Take out the tray from the oven, quickly place the rolled out rotis on it and bake in the centre of the oven for 8-10 minutes. How many trays you can use at a time depends on the size of your oven and heating efficiency.
  6. Once the top looks cooked; very lightly golden with a few dark brown-black spots and patches, turn over and check that the other side is ready.

Difference between Roti and Naan

The people of the foreign land often misunderstand roti and Naan. These two breads are similar looking but have ground-breaking differences within themselves.

Naan is a soft, leavened flatbread made of white flour that’s traditionally cooked in a tandoor. It’s made either plain, buttered, or stuffed using either – garlic, potato, or mutton. It’s the most pillowy and bread of the common flatbreads eaten in India.

Roti is also an unleavened wheat flour bread. But it is much thinner than naan and cooked on a Tawa or a tandoor. Making it a much healthier option for your stomach. It is the most popular bread in North India and is enjoyable with any side dish.
